Leeds United have struggled with numerous injuries this season with the likes of Patrick Bamford, Kalvin Phillips and Charlie Cresswell currently out of action.

Moving forward, it seems as though the Whites have been handed some good news regarding the fitness of one player at Elland Road that could have a big impact on the team in the upcoming weeks and months left in the season.

What’s the news?

After having surgery on a knee injury he picked up during the Whites’ FA Cup defeat against West Ham United last month, Sam Greenwood recently shared an image on his Instagram story (via Leeds Live) of himself wearing a pair of football boots, teasing that he has returned to some sort of training.

Since joining Leeds’ U23 side back in August 2020 from Arsenal’s U18 squad, the 20-year-old has gone on to make 34 appearances for the Yorkshire club’s youth team and managed to score 20 goals and provide four assists along the way.

The youngster has also made four senior appearances for the first-team, with one of them coming in the Premier League where he came on to play 12 minutes against Arsenal at Elland Road back in December.

Fans will be delighted

Despite making just one 12-minute substitute appearance in the league this season, the Englishman has been involved in nine matchday squads, showing that Bielsa views him as a valid attacking option for his team and would be a big boost for the team to have him available again.

Especially with the side so threadbare across the pitch.

With that in mind and the fact that Tyler Roberts and Joe Gelhardt have only managed to score two goals between them in the league this season, as well having Bamford still out, the Leeds fans will surely be delighted to see Greenwood making steps towards a full recovery and back in with a chance to play regularly in the first team.

Moving forward, if Bamford isn’t likely to be back out on the pitch anytime soon and Roberts or Gelhardt can’t find any consistent goalscoring form, Bielsa should definitely look to Greenwood when he returns to see if he can find his feet in the Premier League and get some much-needed goals for the Whites and help them move away from being involved in a relegation dogfight.
