It should come as a surprise to absolutely nobody that Leeds are already being linked with signing a new goalkeeper after Kiko Casilla’s recent performances.

Indeed, the Spaniard’s form has been nothing short of abysmal lately, dropping three absolute clangers in United’s last three games.

The 33-year-old was undone directly by a deflected corner against Wigan, before being beaten too easily at his near post against Forest and setting Said Benrahma up for his opener against Brentford.

You can understand why Leeds would be considering the prospect of a new goalie, but they may want to avoid a man they’ve been after for some time now.

What’s the story then?

Football Insider are reporting that Karl Darlow will be available on a free this summer, and they also claim that Leeds have been long-term admirers of the goalkeeper.

The report claims that United have been willing to pay £4m for him in the past 12 months, but now he’s available for free.

However, despite this bargain being available, Leeds should only consider it if they don’t go up.

Not PL quality

There’s a reason that Darlow is allowed to leave St James’ Park for free this summer.

The fact of the matter is that he hasn’t been deemed Premier League quality by the Magpies, playing just 10 Premier League games since their promotion in 2017.

There’s no doubting that the former Nottingham Forest man would be a real asset in the Championship, conceding just 32 goals in 34 appearances back in 2016/17, but Leeds don’t want to be in the second tier next term.

Yes, Leeds’ form is waning, but as it stands they’re still in the top two, and if they go up they shouldn’t be going in for Darlow, even if it’s on a free.

In other news, Leeds fans were far from happy with one Marcelo Bielsa decision on Tuesday.
