Neuer sustained the injury in the first leg of Bayern's Champions League round of 16 fixture against Bayer Leverkusen on March 11. He subsequently missed the club's second-leg tie and the next two Bundesliga matches against Bochum and Union Berlin as 21-year-old custodian Jonas Urbig made his first senior appearance for the Bavarian side.

Now the German giants have announced that the veteran goalkeeper, who was working on a comeback from his muscle injury, has suffered a reaction, that will keep him sidelined for a significant amount of time. Neuer's replacement Urbig has also sustained a foot injury while on international duty with the Germany Under-21 side.

In the absence, of Neuer and Urbig, Sven Ulreich is likely to feature in Vincent Kompany's lineup in the club's upcoming games. Ulreich has appeared in only two matches for Bayern in the 2024-25 campaign, with both of his appearances coming in September 2024.
